For pointing out that the picture on Ben's wall has changed since it was seen in The Man From Tallahassee.
Here is a reminder of how it looked in TMFT
This is how the painting now looks in TOW
Here is a screenshot comparing them both
Conclusion.
Looking at the details in both pictures
It looks to me like both are indeed the same picture, however the later picture has been re-worked/edited to change the hair style and make the woman look older.
It also looks like in the later pic the face is slightly more central.

I think it was because in TMFT they didn't know what Ben's mother would look like (for she wasnt cast). Now that they have casted her they need to change the painting and this is important for 'The Other Woman' because Harper says that Juliet looks 'just like her' (Ben's mom) atleast that's how i saw it at least.
Hi SpOOky!
Great job as always.
I´ll added this picture in my review. I´m sure that Lost is not only about a space-time issues.
And I don´t think that picture has been change because it was VERY IMPORTANT en TMFT.
See you :)
Maybe it's like the picture of Dorian Gray.

I was thinking the same thing :)
My other thought would be that the one we saw in TOW is Ben's mom, but the one we saw in TMFT is someone Ben had painted exactly like the picture of his mom like Juliet or someone else.
That is very interesting that you noticed the change in the picture. It will be neat to see if the producers continue to do more with this.
This picture was in both TMBTC and TMFT and I figured it was just an indicator that Ben was presently living in the same house he grew up in. I didn't think it was anyone of importance but now I'm going to have to rethink this. Obviously if the picture has been altered it must have some deeper meaning to the show. Just like Des and Penny's picture was changed when the actress was cast.
Juliet has long curly hair in flashbacks. I think this was used to indicate her pre-island life. But then they put long curly extensions on Carrie's blond hair. Now they change this picture so the woman has longer curly hair. I'm thinking the blond long and curly hair has to mean something to Ben. Good catch with this one. It is one continuity error that means something.
I bet Darlton were giggling up a storm when they cast Carrie as Ben's mom. Yes, it was Emerson's wife playing his mom but it was also someone who looked a lot like Carrie (Ben's mother) who Emerson's character was also obsessed with. Seems Ben and Emerson share similar taste; they are both obsessed with women who look like Carrie. Freudian wise character and actor are both in love with the same woman.
Looks very similar to Kate's mother in the earlier painting...
